Sugar in American Diet

The average American in this country consumes 160 lbs of sugar per person per year. When I researched the statistic I found that the 160 lbs was coming from just bread, rice, cereal, pasta, potatoes, and corn. These are starchy foods that convert into sugar when digested. Think about the obvious sugars consumed like cookies, candies, cakes, ice cream, sodas and any obvious sugar, and this numbers drastically goes up to 300-400lbs of sugar per person per year. This is the reason this country struggles with obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.
