It’s been my experience as a doctor that people who are taking care of themselves can go on a holiday binge and indulge in a few foods and drinks they don’t normally have without lasting detriment to their health. However if you are really addicted to sugar or have an obvious allergy to a food, you should avoid these under any circumstances rather than risk returning to the cravings for the food or having an allergy flare up. The holidays are a great time to enjoy with family and friends and I have seen many people through the course of the holidays pack on 10 lbs. The national average weight gain during the holiday season is around 15 lbs. Stay focused on your health goals even through the holidays.
